Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, poured praise on President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, extolling the Indonesian head of state as a leader who cared about the environment and climate change.

The prince expressed his commendation when he rose to the podium as the third speaker in the opening of the Forest and Climate Change Conference in Oslo. Yudhoyono was the second speaker in the high-profile event after host Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.

“He is one of the Asian leaders who care about climate change and the environment,” Charles said, referring to the Indonesian president.

Yudhoyono is scheduled to meet Prince Charles for 30 minutes on the sidelines of the conference for a talk on climate change and reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

In his opening speech, Norway’s Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said Indonesia under Yudhoyono’s leadership had expressed commitment to protect its environment by reducing emissions.
