Incident of violation of Arms Act reveals poaching of wild animals

ADILABAD: Poaching of wild animals continues to be a disturbing phenomenon in Adilabad as revealed by a sensational incident of violation of Arms Act among other crimes. This incident has come to light after a lapse of about four months since a member of a poaching party got injured when the gun went off accidentally in the Seetagondi forests near Adilabad district head quarters.

While the forest department is still unaware of this incident involving poaching, the police department has conducted a thorough inquiry into it.

A full scale investigation by the latter laid bare the fact that poaching has taken an ‘organised' form at least in the district head quarters.

Police has taken into custody some of the accused, including the holder of the gun licence as part of investigation into the crime.

The gun used for poaching has also been recovered.

In recent times, the population of wild animals like sambar and nilgai has risen in the forests in Adilabad range. This attracts groups of hunters from Adilabad town and even Hyderabad.
