GUNTUR: Developing eco-friendly technologies should be the focus of the budding engineers when they come into the decision-making position in the industry, Indian Institute of Technology Madras professor P.S.T. Sai told students at the Bapatla Engineering College while inaugurating a two-day workshop on `Waste Management in Chemical and Allied Industries'.
Sponsored by Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board, the workshop began on Thursday and would continue on Friday also. Presiding over the inaugural college committee president Mupppalaneni Seshagiri Rao, dwelt on the need for strict adherence to Environmental laws as the earth needs to be preserved in pure form for future generation and it was the only planet known to have life so far.
College principal K. Lakshmi Prasad, encouraged the faculty and students to take up research work related to environmental protection technologies by utilizing the state of the art infrastructure and lab facilities available at the Biotechnology, chemical and civil engineering Department laboratories.
The IIT professor in his keynote address on “Mitigation of Air Pollution Control Equipment” highlighted technical nuances of the technology. Organising convener Biotechnology head J.S.Rao, brought forth the necessity of environmental protection by declaring ‘nature has been protecting us like mother and it's our turn now to protect the nature.'
The workshop witnessed lectures delivered by representatives of industries like ITC-Chirala, Sangam Dairy, Andhra Sugars Vuyyur, IICT and Spectro Chem of Hyderabad.
