State Senators Fran Pavley, D-Santa Monica, and Christine Kehoe, D-San Diego, will be in San Diego Friday for an informational hearing on the Energy Security and Climate Change. It will be held at Scripps Institution of Oceanography's Seaside Forum from 9 to 11 a.m.
The public hearing will focus on the strategic challenges of the nation's dependence on fossil fuels as well as on the security issues we may face due to climate change, according to a press release from Pavley's office. The hearing will also focus on how the military, local citizens and businesses in San Diego are meeting the challenges posed by these issues.
The Senate Select Committee on Climate Change and AB 32 Implementation, of which Pavley is the chair, is organizing the hearing titled: "Energy Security & Climate Change: Global Problems, Local Solutions. Kehoe is hosting the hearing in her district.
Presenters include: Maj. Gen. Anthony L. Jackson , Commanding General Marine Corps Installations West: Rear Adm. William D. French, Commander Navy Region Southwest, and Rear Adm, Dennis McGinn, U.S. Navy (Ret.)
Other speakers will include Alan Ball, founder and partner of Sustainable Intelligence; Dr. Emily Young, senior Ddirector of environmental analysis and strategy for the San Diego Foundation, and Sam Ori, director of policy for the Electrification Coalition.
"Our economic future and impacts to our environment are being threatened," said Pavley said in the release. "It's vital to the health of our families, the health of our economy and the security of our nation to continue to move toward a cleaner, safer, and more reliable energy future."
