In a bid to sensitise people about climate change, Gujarat Ecology Commission (GEC), the apex body of the Department of Environment & Forest, organised a state-level conference on Tuesday in Gandhinagar. The theme of the conference was ‘Combating Climate Change – A Roadmap for Gujarat’.

The GEC has launched a statewide campaign on climate change and its impact on environment and human life. The idea of the campaign is to educate masses about what they can do at an individual level to reduce the impact.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Principal Secretary S K Nanda said, “As part of this campaign, GEC is launching a series of conferences aimed at bringing different stakeholders in the society on one platform to facilitate exchange of ideas and develop a comprehensive strategy to tackle climate change.”

He further said, “With the help of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, the Energy & Petroleum Department, the Education Department, the Information Department, the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited and the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited, we are going to have sessions on conservation of water and energy.”
