‘Climate scientists are only humans’

LONDON: With the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and its chairman Rajendra Pachauri facing criticism for the Himalayan glacier blunder, Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, the IPCC’s deputy leader, defended Mr. Pachauri saying scientists were “only humans” who can make “mistakes.” He also saw nothing wrong in Mr. Pachauri using the word “voodoo science” to slam the Indian Environment Ministry, which contested the IPCC’s claim.

“Aren’t mistakes human? I do not know of any human institution that does not make mistakes, so of course it is a regrettable incident that we published that wrong description of the Himalayan glacier,” Mr. van Ypersele told the BBC.
