In what appeared to be a poaching case, carcass of an eight-year-old tiger was recovered from the Paraspur area in Pallia, North Kheri, on Tuesday night. Blood was oozing out from tiger’s mouth and its paws had turned black.

DFO (Kheri) KK Singh, while talking to The Pioneer, said that the body of the tiger had been sent for post-mortem and samples to IVRI, Bareilly.

“There appears to be three possibilities regarding the death of the big cat. First, the animal may have been electrocuted by a high tension wire, however, there were no signs of injuries except for the fact that its paws turned black. Second, the animal may have been poisoned because it was bleeding profusely, and third, it may have been stuck in a noose,” said Singh.

Meanwhile, the Forest department formed an inquiry committee to probe into the matter. A team of three officials were also rushed to the site.

Chief Wildlife warden BK Patnaik, while talking to The Pioneer, said as per CZA regulations, three officials were to assess the situation at the spot.

“Harish Guleria is representing the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), a zoo vet from Kheri is the local representative and VP Singh, a representative from local NGO, is also present,” said Patnaik.

The poaching incident has shocked wildlife activists all over.
