Producing power from non-conventional sources of energy is India’s reply to the developed nations on global warming.

Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said this, addressing mediapersons here today.

Dr Abdullah was here to lay the foundation stone of 60 MW biomass power plant on the premises of Laxmi Energy and Foods. Abdullah said unless India started producing energy from non-conventional sources, the phenomenon of climate change would accelerate, adversely affecting weather patterns.

Abdullah pointed out that despite a large potential of producing power to the extent of 18,000 MW from biomass and 5,000 MW from sugar bagasse, the actual power production from these sources was only 800 MW and 1,200 MW.
