PORT-OF-SPAIN/BEIJING,: Ahead of the Copenhagen Summit on climate change, India today said the meeting should make all efforts to come out with a “legally binding substantive” outcome and disapproved of any attempt to give up and defer a decision as is being mulled by some developed countries. The PM's Special Envoy on Climate Change, Mr Shyam Saran said here that even if no consensus is reached at Copenhagen next month, efforts should continue with an aim of concluding the negotiations in a time-bound manner.

Environment minister Mr Jairam Ramesh today met Chinese Premier Mr Wen Jiabao, who is believed to have confirmed China’s opposition to allowing any international review of its environmental progamme, including carbon emission reduction, a stand India has shares. India was surprised by the high level of emission cuts announced by China yesterday, when it pledged to reduce its carbon intensity by 40 to 45 per cent by 2020.
