ILCC hosts awareness programme on climate change

The International Library and Cultural Centre (ILCC), Ranchi played host to an awareness programme on “Climate change — global concern to local realities and related environmental issues” on Wednesday. The awareness programme included film screening and panel discussion as well.

The programme began with noted filmmaker Shri Prakash informing everyone about the motive of the programme. This was then continued with a film An inconvenient truth and the final tide, bringing up the issue of Global Warming, and also the alarming results if it is not prevented.

After the screening of the film, the panelists which comprised of noted people like Ramesh Sharan, professor of Economics in Ranchi University; Dayamani Barla, social activist and journalist; Nitish Priyadarshi, environmentalist and Radhika Borde, independent researcher in adivasi echo spirituality expressed their views on the burning issue.

Dayamani Barla addressing the audiences said: “We are opposing the strategy of Mittal Group, but we are not in disrespect to the other development works. We want sustainable development and a growth with the consent of everybody. Information on global warming and methods to reduce it is very necessary.

Students from St Xavier’s School, Oxford Public School, Guru Nanak Higher Secondary School, DAV Bariyatu, Tender Heart School, Bishop Westcott Boy’s and Girl’s School were present in the programme who presented their views on methods to curb the problem of climatic change which are leading to severe environmental problems.

Filmmaker, Shri Prakash said: “Global warming is an international issue and we have to find its solution. Students have to participate in this issue leaving aside their books and notes and have to face the real problems.”

Professor Ramesh Sharan emphasised on the global politics and the situation India is facing. He also said that people have found out ways to exploit the atmosphere but they are clueless when the issue arrives of finding a solution to it.

Members of Ranchi Film Club and ILCC trustees also actively participated in the discussion.
