Climate change talks must include water, say expertsClimate change talks must include water, say experts

The Deccan Herald , Monday, August 24, 2009
Correspondent : Stockholm, Prensa Latina:
Participants at the World Water Week conference here have urged the governments to include the problem of water shortage in the negotiations on climate change.

Access to drinking water has a significant impact on economy, health, agriculture and other spheres of life, they said.

However, this issue has not been properly dealt with in the meetings on climate change, participants at the conference stressed.

More than 2,500 scientists, politicians and officials are participating in the meeting.

Anders Berntell, director of the Stockholm-based International Institute of Water, said climate change talks would be fruitful only when there is a real awareness on the importance of water.

Experts say one billion people have no access to drinking water in the world.
