AMRELI: In a major poaching racket, 31 turtles were found dead in a net laid by poachers in Lunsapuriya village of Jafrabad taluka on Saturday.
Forest officials arrested a poacher, while his accomplice fled.
According to the incident's details, forest officials kept a watch around a pond near Lunsapuriya Dada temple, following a tip-off about turtles' poaching going on there.
"At midnight, when two poachers went into the pond to take out their net, we challenged them, following which they fled. We nabbed the poacher, identified as Tulsi, with the help of villagers, while his accomplice Tilu fled," said a forester.
"When we inspected the net, we found 31 turtles lying dead. In his interrogation, Tulsi said that he and Tilu had come from Pipalva village of Kodinar taluka," he added.
