Belgaum: Deputy Commissioner J. Ravishankar on Friday appealed to the people to join hands to face the threat from climate change and strive to protect the environment by reducing pollution levels.
‘Protect the earth’
Inaugurating a function to mark World Environment Day here, he said that the threat owing to climate change and destruction of ecology leading to increasing pollution levels should be taken seriously and every individual should contribute to protect the earth so that the future generations lived in pollution-free environment.
Change lifestyle
Environmental activist Sanjeev Kulkarni from Dharwad called for a change in lifestyle as one of the responses to climate change.
Proactive role
Member of the Belgaum Association for Science Education V. Patil said that individuals should start playing a proactive role in protecting the environment and bringing down pollution instead of being mute to the ecological destruction.
Earlier, Dr. Ravishankar flagged off a “Parisara jatha” in which students and environmental activists from various colleges and institutions participated.
An exhibition of photographs on nature was organised at the Kannada Sahitya Bhavan in the city.
