CHENNAI: Countries around the world should take immediate steps to bring down the level of carbon content in the atmosphere to check climate change, said eminent agricultural scientist M S Swaminathan.

Inaugurating the first Indian Youth Science Congress, jointly organised by the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, SRM University and the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development, at the latter's premises in Sriperumbudur on Friday, Swaminathan said that the impact of climate change was reflected in the steady rise in sea water levels, drought, floods and melting of glaciers. The change threatened the lives of millions of people around the world, he added.

SRM University vice-chancellor Prof P Sathyanarayanan was also present.
