Central Pollution Control Board, zonal office (Central), Bhopal will organice plethora of programmes on June 5 to mark World Environment Day. This year's theme is `your planet needs your help! unite to combat change in environment'. Scientists believe that by the year 2050 temperature of earth will rise by 1.5 to 4.5 degree Centigrade.

Primary reason behind global warming is increase in emission of green house gases. If this happens then along with the other glaciers 40 per cent Himalayan glaciers too will melt. Due to melting of glaciers sea level will rise by 15 cm to 90 cm and this is a threat to cities lying on seashore, as they are likely to get submerged.

The environmental implications of global warming are profound for ecosystems. The crisis has woken us up. While the estimated cost of climate change are incalculable, the price tag for fighting it may be less than ever imagined. An estimate indicates this cost at less than one per cent of global domestic product- an affordable price indeed for waging a global war.

There is a good news that technology already exists or it is under way to make the consumption of carbon based fuels cleaner and more efficient besides harnessing the renewable power of sun, wind and waves.

The message of World Environment Day 2009 is that we all are part of the solution, as an individual, non government organisation, community, youths group, businessmen, industry and media.

For giving information pertaining to environmental change and its solution an awareness campaign would be conducted and under this campaign Central Pollution Control Board, zonal office, Bhopal will organise inter college debating competition with the cooperation of Sagar Institute of Research and Technology on June 5. On June 4 and 5 at four places of the City namely Bittan Market, 10 Number Market, New Market and at Piplani Market film related to environmental changes will be screened. On Gyanwani a talk will be aired at 5.30 pm on June 5. Besides this efforts will be made to bring awareness about this by distributing pamphlets.
