Extensive action will be taken under the Wildlife Protection Protocol for conserving wild animals in the State. Additional Chief Secretary Forest department Prashant Mehta stated this, while addressing the two-day conference of Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) here on Sunday.
Mehta reviewed the forest, wildlife conservation and also reviewed the departmental functioning. He directed the Field Directors for identifying the elements engaged in poaching and initiating stringent action against them, in cooperation with the district administration officials.
Principal Chief Conservator Forest (PCCF) PB Gangopadhyay stressed upon the need for utilising the available resources for preventing illegal deforestation and forest fires. Poaching of wild animals and conservation measures were profoundly discussed during the conference.
Mehta directed the officials for observing one day every month as ‘Wild Animals Day’ and organising activities related to wild animals and also deciding on future course of action. Chief Wildlife Warden HS Pabla on the occasion said that forest posts will be established at 56 forest ranges situated around the reserve forest areas of the State.
He further added that in order to collect wildlife crime related information’s, State level Tiger protection Force is being established in the State. He informed that this force will include six anti-poaching squads.
Officials were directed for strengthening the information network part from enhancing surveillance, for curbing illegal forest cutting. It was also informed in the meeting that 100 Tree-Huts will be established in the State under the Eco-tourism development efforts.
