PANAJI: Piqued over Goa forest department's alleged laxity in handling a case of tigerpoaching, the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has said that it was officials from Karnataka who informed about the tiger killed in Goa.

"It was forest officials from Karnataka who informed us about the tiger killing reported in Mhadei wildlife sanctuary in Goa," S P Yadav, joint director, NTCA said from Delhi.

"The Goa forest department should have informed the authorities officially about the tiger poaching," Yadav said.

"We have not received any intimation from them. It is the deputy conservator of forests, Dandeli Hanshi range in Karnataka who reported the incident to us," he said.

The tiger, according to Yadav, would have entered the Goa forest region from neighbouring Dandeli Hanshi tiger reserve which is a part of continuous forest corridor covering three states Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The Goa forest department is probing the case reported at Keri village in Mhadei wildlife sanctuary in which the animal was trapped and later shot dead allegedly by the villagers.
