Injured leopard dies in Indore zoo, two held

The leopard, which got injured while falling from a hill in Manpur forest area in Mhow on Wednesday morning, had died on Saturday during treatment in the Indore Zoo. The feline was having injuries marks on the head. Two persons, who had attacked the big cat, have been arrested on Sunday. The DFO has also formed a committee to probe into the incident.

The leopard had got injured after falling from a hill and was under going treatment at Indore Zoo. The condition of the big cat suddenly deteriorated and it died on Saturday. Two persons hailing from Naharkhotra village (Manpur) have been arrested by the forest department for attacking the leopard on Wednesday.

Forest Ranger Fateh Singh Nimama along with his team had arrested the Bhairo Singh and Nadan Adivasi in connection with the attack on leopard, on Sunday. The accused have claimed that the leopard had intruded into their village on Wednesday and they attacked it for self-defense with axes, when the big cat hid inside their house. The forest officials however presented the duo in Mhow court, which in turn sent them to judicial custody.

Indore Divisional Forest Officer L Krishnamurthi informed that a committee has been formed for probing the issue. However, earlier the Forest officials have denied the possibilities of poaching incident. After post mortem, it was revealed that leopard was having serious injury on the head and both the kidneys were also not functioning.
