Now it will not be possible to hide tiger poaching cases, as following a fresh directive from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) — the topmost Governing body of tiger conservation in the country, the State Forest department will not be able to conduct post mortem of tigers on its own. The recent NTCA order has made the presence of its representative compulsory during postmortems of stripped big cats.

The NTCA, through its recent order, has directed the States, having tiger population, including Madhya Pradesh, to ensure that henceforth the postmortem of the yellow-stripped big cats should be carried out in the presence of one of its representatives.

The dead tiger need to be kept inside the deep freezer till the NTCA representative arrives to be present during the postmortem. The postmortem report also needs to be prepared as per the pre-specified norms. The NTCA representative, a wildlife expert selected by the wildlife wing and a local veterinary expert, will jointly prepare the report.

The NTCA move apparently has come following incessant deaths of tigers in some parts of the country including Madhya Pradesh in the recent past. Several tigers have died in Madhya Pradesh one year or so on account of various reasons and often the State Forest Department terms these deaths a result of territorial fight.
