NEW DELHI: To bridge the distance between science and spirituality, a two-day international conference on “Combating challenges of climate change” opens at Vigyan Bhavan here this Saturday.

Organised by the Scientists and Engineers Wing of the Brahma Kumaris institution’s Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation, the conference will be inaugurated by Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Scientists and Engineers Wing of RERF national coordinator B. K. Mohan Singhal said: “The human species is faced with a planetary emergency. The threat to the survival of our civilisation is getting ominous. Now science is warning us that if we do not reduce global warming, we are in danger of creating a permanent carbon summer.”

Stating that people need to be acquainted with the subject to find a holistic solution, Mr. Singhal said: “Along with global warming, depletion of the ozone layer and acid rain, we will also discuss social problems.”

Brahma Kumaris chief spokesperson B. K. Brijmohan said the conference was a part of the “Save the Earth Planet” programme launched in Mount Abu last year to create a platform for common effort and shared responsibility to combat the challenges of climate change at the individual, corporate, NGO and government levels.
