PANAJI: Combining a musical treat on solar powered instruments with a message for global climate change, a group of friends from the Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) will perform in Goa on January 21 and 22.

After having kicked off their 3,500 km tour to various parts of India on January 3, the network of youth and young professionals will participate in an event on January 21 at BITS Pilani Campus, Vasco, and on January 22 morning at St Xavier's College, Mapusa, and Sharada Mandir School, Miramar. This will be followed by a musical event by the Solar Band along with Remo Fernandes at Kala Academy, Panaji, on January 22 evening.

"Our aim is to build a climate movement based on solutionsand our belief is that the greatest solution is our human capacity to take action," says Kartikeya Singh, co-founder and executive director of IYCN.

India has a host of eco-solutions and the IYCN considers empowering youth as a great challenge of the time. The group will travel in three solar plug-in Reva vehicles and a solar bus. "A solar powered music band called Solar Punch, and a group of dancers from Shiamak Davar's Victory Arts Foundation is part of the network going around," sources said

The group has travelled from Chennai to Bangalore, and will cover Hyderabad, en route to Goa and 15 cities before heading to New Delhi on February 4, 2009.

"The idea for the journey was created by two Yale graduates, Alexis Ringwald and Caroline Howe, who had seen inspiring climate solutions during their work in India. They wanted to both raise awareness and convert this awareness into tangible actions, a press release of the IYCN states.
