Kakinada: By consuming more than their due share of natural resources, human beings have brought about dramatic climate changes that are now posing a serious threat in the form of global warming. Temperatures have long ago surpassed the manageable levels, resulting in swelling of the oceans and destruction of pristine ecosystems but the scale of damage control measures does not seem to match the task on hand.

Seen against this backdrop, industries which are major contributors of green house gases, have to find ways of becoming environment friendly, lest the quality of life on the planet should degenerate further, said K Siva Kishan, Counselor of CII Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Center (Hyderabad).

Giving a presentation on global warming organised by the Indian Trust of Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) at the JNTU engineering college auditorium here on Friday, Mr. Kishan said a series of experiments conducted on the basis of Ice Core Analysis done at Antarctica, produced a detailed climatic record spanning hundreds of thousands of years and it was useful in devising a strategy for managing the environment in future.

The loss of biodiversity over the past few decades was immense and things continue to be problematic.

There are several other parameters of climatology that have to be given a thorough look before remedial action was taken, he added.

Delivering the inaugural address, JNTU Kakinada Vice-Chancellor Allam Appa Rao said India was running out of water which has a lot to do with climate change.
