BANGALORE : A group of individuals from across India and around the world have set out on a journey for the cause of environment, eco

solutions and empowerment of youth as part of a campaign against climate change. The road tour, organized by the Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN), reached Bangalore on Sunday, bringing along solutions to climate change in India.

The network's aim is to reach out to youngsters across the country through the climate solutions road tour. The caravan and a solar-powered music band will wind its way through over 3,500 km in solar-powered electric cars and alternative fuel-driven buses through 15 major cities towards its final destination New Delhi where they will reach on February 4.

Caroline Howe, co-ordinator of the climate solutions project, told `The Times Of India': "We are helping young people through this project by taking their ideas and implementing them for solutions to climate change. Young people in India are already aware of the problems. It's now time for action; to create, communicate and celebrate climate solutions.'' The caravan includes solar-powered cars, a solar-powered music band called Solar Punch and a group of dancers from Shiamak Davar's dance group.

Innovation to connect:

Alexis Ringwald, co-founder of Valence Energy, said: "Youngsters are not interested in attending seminars on climate change and want to be innovative in every aspect. Our project was conceived this way to communicate with the different audiences. We think dance, music and words will help us reach them.''

The network has also set up 15 climate training programmes in universities across the country. As part of the campaign, a book-reading session on climate change and vision for the future was also held with Nandan Nilekani, co-chairman of Infosys Technologies.
