CHANDIGARH: When Nawab Fidai Khan designed and got built what we now know as the Yadavindra Garden Complex in Pinjore during the 17th century, he won't have dreamt that some state body would have the audacity to serve it a notice. But then, he also would not have thought that the sewage from the garden would be polluting the nearby rivulets.
Alleging that the garden complex is polluting water, Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) has served it a notice.
The heritage complex is managed by Haryana Tourism Corporation (HTC).
"We have served notices on all units in the area that are discharging more than 10 kilolitres of sewage into river waters without any treatment," HPSCB's Panchkula zone regional officer Bhagwan Singh said.
HTC officials told the The Times of India that they had made a representation to the HPSCB stating they would come out with a concrete policy regarding this.
"It would be a detailed plan and not just limited to Pinjore or Ambala. We have already taken precautions in our new properties," a senior HTC official said.
It may be recalled that for past two months, the pollution control board has pulled up all major self-financed engineering and education colleges, major industrial units, sugar mills and hospitals for their alleged violation of water and air pollution laws.
Three such institutions and a leading hotel in Panchkula were sealed on this account. They were allowed to start functioning again when they submitted detailed plans and furnished security deposits for sewage management.
Dye and paint manufacturing and electroplating units have also been served notices.
HPSCB has already sealed one paint manufacturing unit in Panchkula's Industrial Area.
