Five fined for poaching migratory birds

PUDUCHERRY: Officials of the Forest Department on Wednesday fined five persons for poaching migratory birds at Manaveli, Ariyankuppam. Little egrets, pond herons and grey herons were rescued from them.

According to sources, the officials received a complaint from residents at 4 a.m. “The residents said a few persons had laid nets to trap birds. We rushed to the spot and detained five persons, who were involved in poaching,” Agriculture Officer of the department Siva Shanmugam said.
