JAIPUR: In a bid to revive the big cat population in the Sariska reserve, one more tiger will soon be airlifted from Ranthambore to the reserve.

Chief Wildlife Conservator of Sariska reserve R N Mehrotra on Thursday said that arrangements were being made to catch preferably a tigress this time.

"If all goes well and weather is conducive the shifting of the second big cat will be done as soon as possible," Mehrotra said.

"The 3-year-old male tiger which was shifted on June 28 from Ranthambore to Sariska is normal and has adapted to new surroundings", Mehrotra said.

He said very shortly it would be decided whether to release the tiger to a wider enclosure from the present Naya Pani enclosure.

A team of Sariska forest officials were constantly monitoring the tiger's behaviour at its new home, Mehrotra said.

A total five big cats would be transferred from Ranthambore to Sariska for relocation, he added.

The state government is on a drive to revive the tiger population in 881 sq km area of Sariska reserve in Alwar district which had lost the entire tiger population because of poaching in 2004-05.
