24 monkeys found dead in Gadarpur

Gadarpur: The police and the forest department officials are looking for clues, after about two-dozen monkeys were found dead in a village.

It is suspected that unknown people threw away monkeys' carcasses on learning that about the arrival of police and forest department officials.

At a time when the Government is making tall claims of conserving wildlife and neutralising poaching gangs, he alleged murder of dozens of monkeys has raised serious questions regarding the functioning of forest department and law enforcement agencies.

According to sources, the police received information regarding about two-dozen monkeys found dead in Rajpura village.

Police Thana in-charge Ummed Singh Danu, forest department deputy ranger GS Bisht and forest guard CS Upreti reached the village to investigate the situation.

The police reached the Chatarpuri irrigation canal, which flows near the village, where they tediously searched a grove of poplar trees without finding any clue. A villager eyewitness has claimed to see dogs dragging away the carcasses.Meanwhile, district general secretary of BJP Kisan Morcha Harlog Singh Namdhari also reached the incident site.

He has said that he will discuss the case with the Forest minister and ensure detailed investigation of the monkey deaths. Deputy ranger RC Harbola said that the Forest Department would conduct an inquiry into the incident and take action against those found guilty.
