Greenpeace activists put up mock ‘eviction notices’ in buildings

KOCHI: Greenpeace activists, as part of their Blue Alert campaign against threats of global warming, put up mock ‘eviction notices’ at several buildings in the city on Thursday.

“All occupants of this building are hereby notified to evacuate the premises by the year 2100; this building will be under water due to rising sea level caused by global warming,” the notice said.

The activists pointed out that because of climate change caused by global warming, the Arabian Sea’s level would rise by two to five feet by the turn of the century. If that happened a huge slice of the city, including the arterial M.G. Road, would go under sea water. To check this from happening, drastic steps to reduce carbon emission worldwide would have to be taken.

Greenpeace, a global environmental NGO, has identified six seaside cities in the country which face the biggest threat from global warming. Awareness campaigns are on in these cities.

The organisation will take out a padayatra in the city on April 12
