3 held, one leopard skin seized in Bazpur

Amid growing reports of poachers being active in Uttarakhand, the State Forest Department's anti- poaching cell on Saturday succeeded in apprehending three poachers in the terai region of Udham Singh Nagar district.

Led by Divisional Forest Officer Prasan Kumar Patro, forest officials nabbed one Parminder Singh, from the Bhagwa Nali locality of Bazpur town in Udham Singh Nagar district when he was trying to sell a leopard skin.

On interrogation, Parminder confessed that he had acquired the skin from Safdar, a barber in Chura village of Rampur block in Nainital district. The police immediately swung into action and nabbed Safdar, who claimed that he had got the skin from a Nepali labourer, Prem Bahadur, of the same village.

A case under the Wild Life Conservation Act has been registered against the three.

They were presented before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate.

Sub-Divisional Officers Anand Singh Arya, Ashuya Prasad and forest range officers from Jaspur, Kashipur and Patrampur areas were part of the forest team nabbed the poachers that led to exposing of the poaching racket. Wild.

They were assisted by staff from the Life Protection Society in the operation.

Widespread reports of poaching have been emanating from the Terai region of Uttarakhand. Consequently, the forest authorities have been undertaking a strict vigil by specially introducing long distance patrolling in the forest areas.

Some time back, the Corbett park authorities had also nabbed a suspected poacher.
