'Global warming a major world threat'

Eminent environmentalist Padam Bhushan Chandi Prasad Bhatt has termed global warming and climate change a potential threat to the very existence of the world.

Bhatt was addressing a workshop jointly organised by Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology and Friends of Doon here on Saturday. He said, the time has come for the young generation to take on the challenge of climate change.

Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology's Director Rajendra Dobhal disclosed that the council has always been at forefront in sensitising the society on global warming and climate change. He also disclosed that the council was preparing a data base on the basis of various projects in order to facilitate constitution of an action plan linked to environment protection.

Scientist DP Uniyal said that India was fast turning into one of the most global warming affected nations. SK Mukherjee of Friends of Doon emphasised on collective efforts towards sensitisation in the society vis-à-vis global warming. Scientist AS Negi made an elaborate presentation on global warming and climate change. The workshop was attended by scores of scientists and environment activists.
