BELLARY: Residents of various localities in Bellary, under the aegis of the Bellary Nagarika Horata Samiti, on Monday staged a protest against air pollution caused by dust emanating from various industries that have come up around the city and also against the awful condition of National Highway 63.
The procession started from the Durgamma Temple and reached the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where they submitted a memorandum to the official urging the authorities to initiate steps to prevent pollution.
The protesters said that black dust falling on roof tops and also inside houses in Basaveshwar Nagar, Nehru Colony, Raghavendra Colony, Renukacharya Nagar, Allum Layout, Gandhinagar, Satyanarayan Pet, Patel Nagar, Ramaiah Colony, Ganesh Colony and other areas, emanating from the chimneys of sponge iron units and also from the Bellary Steels and Alloys Limited (BSAL), had become a regular feature.
