ERODE: Sand mining in Cauvery River is increasing day-by-day with hundreds of bullock cartloads of sand being transported from the river to various places.

It may be noted that the Government has banned sand mining in the Cauvery and instructed the Revenue Department to take stringent action against offenders.

For the last few days, the number of bullock carts collecting sand has increased and it is being done round-the-clock.

People residing on the river banks say that sand mining is a regular activity there.

The Cauvery flows on the border of Erode and Namakkal districts.

Action

While one section of people says that the river near Erode is maintained by the Namakkal district and so the revenue officials from Namakkal have to take action against the offenders, the other section says that even the Erode district revenue officials have the responsibility to prevent such things.
