CHENNAI: The spread of dengue and malaria will increase if global warming is not controlled. The sea level will rise between 9 and 88 cm. Reeling off statistics and rattling off facts, students at Presidency Girls’ Higher Secondary School presented remedies to control climate change at a State-level science seminar held here on Wednesday.

Models were displayed and PowerPoint presentations made by the 60 students from 30 districts of the State. The seminar, which was on ‘Global climate change and its impact’, was a follow-up of a district-level seminar held last week. The finalists of the district-level competition participated in Wednesday’s seminar. Each participant was given six minutes to make his or her presentation. Details about the reasons for climate change, its effect on India and the world, and various simple remedies to help control it were given. The judges closely questioned each contestant on the various slides presented. Creatively-crafted models of forests, the solar system and the earth’s eco-system were showcased.
