DehraDun:: As part of its ‘Ban the Bulb’ campaign, hundreds of Greenpeace activists formed a human chain in front of Surya Roshni, a leading light bulb manufacturer, at Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district on Tuesday.

Greenpeace has demanded that Surya, Philips and Bajaj, the three largest bulb manufacturers in India, provide a definite time frame to phase out the production of energy-inefficient light bulb in the country and increase the production of energy efficient compact fluorescent lamps. “We are facing a planetary emergency. With eight years left to take action on climate change, it is criminal to be producing incandescent light bulbs that waste energy and exacerbate global warming,” said K Srinivas, Greenpeace’s climate and energy expert.
