Chairman of pollution control group appointed

MYSORE: The Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, has appointed M. Mahadevaswamy of Mysore as chairman of a thematic expert group on the prevention, abatement and control of pollution.

Mr. Mahadevaswamy, who is a professor at the Department of Environmental Engineering, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, will head the group that will take up environmental research and issues such as national river conservation, climate change and cleaner technology.

Fallout

The constitution of the thematic expert group is a fallout of the Ministry's decision to review its research policy to provide an added impetus to environmental research and ensure an optimal utilisation of financial resources for supporting environmental research.

Mr. Mahadevaswamy has over two decades of academic and research experience in the field of environmental engineering and has visited the United Kingdom, France and other countries to study water supply systems and sanitation management. He will submit his findings soon to the Ministry of Urban Development for the benefit of its various programmes.
