Lion poaching: 17 people detained in Bhavnagar city

Bhavnagar: Seventeen people have been detained in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat in connection with the lion poaching incidents that occurred in Gir sanctuary last month. "Five men and 12 women have been detained on suspicion," said P S Patel, police inspector of 'C' Division here. The suspects were taken for questioning after they were found near the Bhavanagar railway station. Police also found some traps and nets with them. The city police have alerted the state CID crime which is conducting an investigation into the two incidents where six lions were killed in the Babariya range of Gir sanctuary last month.
