Bhopal, Jan 13: The human population explosion was the major factor leading to the treat of the forest and wild life. It was expressed by the former Director of Van Vihar National Park, Bhopal PM Laad at a lecture programme here on Saturday. As part of 'Save Tiger Campaign' the Regional Museum of Natural History (RMNH), Bhopal organied a guest lecture programme on Saturday at the Eco-theatre of RMNH. PM Laad delivered lecture on the subject of 'threat to the forest and wild life'.
He said that the natural habitat of the wild life was under destruction. Besides he spoke about the important values of the tiger in our society such as mythological, religious, socio-cultural, ecological and scientific. He has shown the slides of Saras Crane once pictured in a paddy field. He mentioned that crane once found distributed in central India and northern India but not found now.
He reasoned that was due to the human pressure and encroachments. The developing new colonies for human habitation destroyed the paddy filed and marshy lands, which were the habitat of Saras Cranes. He pointed out the adopted corporate culture made no time for people to involve themselves in conservation activities. He felt that people, who were living very close to forest could really conserve forest and wild life that urbanites.
PM Laad told that the demand of wild animal derivatives was more so the poaching and illegal international trade was more. He advised that to save the wild animals, we must check the poaching and illegal trade of wild animal derivatives. He shared his experienced in rearing 'Chiku' the tiger cub. The RMNH should make people think about present and future. Earlier Dr S Sethuramalingam, Scientist-in charge introduced the chief guest as the living treasure. General visitors and museum staff participated in the programme. Manoj Kumar Sharma, Coordinator of the programme proposed the vote of thanks.
