More than five lakh birds from across the globe are currently having their winter sojourn in the famous Orissa lake.

A few days ago, wildlife personnel chased three poachers and seized as many as 21 dead migratory birds of foreign varieties from them at Kalupada ghat near the lake. While one hunter, Sukanta Behera was arrested, two others managed to flee from the spot.

Eight cases of poaching in the Chilka lake have so far been registered by the authorities this season.
