TIRUNELVELI: In an attempt to save the Tamirabarani, chairpersons (all belong to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) of four zones of the Tirunelveli Corporation have decided to meet Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi with an appeal to take steps to stop sand mining along the river's watercourse.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, chairman of the Palayamkottai zone Suba. Seetharaman, after holding discussions with his counterparts of Thatchanallur, Tirunelveli and Melapalayam zones, said efforts to take water from the Tamirabarani to far-off places should not deny water for irrigation and drinking needs of the people of Tirunelveli district.
