Steps to preserve water resources

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board organised a workshop on `drinking water management' for officials and elected representatives of local bodies here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector, T. Udhayachandran, explained the steps taken to preserve water sources, including the ban imposed on sand mining along the Vaigai riverbed. In combined drinking water schemes, meters should be affixed to every consumer to record the consumption level and calculate bills accordingly. He appealed to experts at the workshop to highlight the methods to be adopted to manage drinking water problems during drought situations. Representatives of local bodies should implement equitable water distribution schemes.

The District Panchayat President, K. Ashok Kumar, the Divisional Executive Engineer (Rural Drinking Water Scheme), K. Amaranathan, the Superintending Engineer, M. Elangovan, among others spoke, according to a press release.
