Hyderabad, Dec. 11: Hundreds of illegal car garages have sprung up in residential localities causing much trouble to local people. The incessant repair and service of vehicles in these garages see to it that residents don’t get even a moment of peace. More than 30 garages are functioning in Masab Tank, a busy area with several government and private offices and a large number of houses.

The denting, tinkering, welding and painting taking place in these garages have made life miserable for residents. Most of these garages don’t have trade licences. Dirty water and chemicals flow out to the roads and vehicles brought in for repair are parked in a haphazard manner. In some garages, work begins at night and loud hammering goes on till daybreak. “The heavy noise and the odour of chemicals make it impossible to work or sleep,” said Mahmood Ali, an advocate who stays in Maheshwari Complex of Masab Tank.

Those working in Sank-shema Bhavan, which ho-uses number of governm-ent offices, have also co-mplained they are unable to drive into the complex because of the vehicles parked near the garages. Dr. G. Vijayakumar, health and sanitation officer of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, confirmed that many garages were running without trade licenses.Illegal garages are also functioning in Musheerabad, Uppal, Mehdipatn-am, Nampally, Mettuguda and other areas.
