Jamshedpur, Nov. 24: Kerala Public School (KPS), Kadma started a unique trend today when the school principal and DSP (traffic) F.K.N Kujur flagged off a cycle rally comprising students and teachers, from school premises.

The eco-friendly movement marks an innovative step in saying no to air pollution. Ten teachers and 25 students touched base at six different schools before meeting chairman of Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS), A.P.R Nair, in Sakchi.

They rode through Baldwin Farm Area High School, JH Tarapore School, Loyola School and the Tata Steel Zoological Park, before pausing at the Motilal Nehru Public School and finishing at KSMS. “Students are encouraged to come to school on bicycles. Our emphasis is on ensuring a pollution-free environment,” said Shanta Vaidyanathan, principal of KPS, Kadma. School authorities have made it mandatory for students of Class VI to X to only pedal their way to school. A bike ride is strictly prohibited. The school has also started collecting leftover chalk pieces to use it as the chemical fertiliser for garden soil in the school.
