Seven polluting units get closure notices

APPCB takes decision at the Task Force committee meeting

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has served closure orders on seven polluting industries in Hyderabad and Medak zones for not complying with the Board directions and letting out effluents into drains and nalas. The Board took this decision at the Task Force committee meeting held on Monday.

The polluting industries are: Hetero Drugs Ltd unit IV, Granules India Ltd, Bonthapally, Medak district. Rahul Barium Slats adjacent to IDA Bollaram, Bachipally village in Ranga Reddy district. Artemis Biotech Ltd and Vani Chemicals and Intermediates Ltd in IDA Jeedimetla let out chemical contaminated liquid waste into the Jeedimetal nala, which joins the Kukatpally nala.

The Pickling & Powder coating of fan blades unit in Balanagar was served closure notice for operating the unit in the residential colony unauthorisedly and causing health problems due to release of paint dust into air and also causing ground water pollution while Navashakti Paints and Chemicals unit in Nacharam was served closure notice for causing air pollution.

Directive

The APPCB directed nine industries including Reddy's Laboratories Ltd, Nalgonda district, to improve the pollution control systems to control both air and water pollution. The other industries were: Medhava Laboratories, Khazipally, Medak, Hetero Labs Ltd, Jinnaram, Medak, Nizam Deccan Sugar Ltd, Bodhan, Sunder Silk Mills, Azamabad, Hyderabad, Bhanu handmade paper and allied products, Moinabad, SMS Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Bachupally, Nandi Milk Product and S.S. Dairy, Nandyal.
