HYDERABAD: Do you know what geo-thermal energy is all about? Are you aware of ways to conserve land and water and prevent their pollution?

Students from 50 schools across the twin cities showcased their concern for the environment at an exhibition on `Save Energy' organised by the Energy Conservation Mission (ECM) of the Institution of Engineers (India) here on Wednesday.

"We believe that if children below 14 are tapped for conservation of the environment, it will develop as a habit in them. They will carry the message from school to home and will gradually spread it further," said Captain J. Rama Rao, Chairman of ECM.

Eco-friendly models

Children made eco-friendly models based on five topics - land conservation, water conservation, air pollution, waste management and non-conventional sources of energy. They included specimens of soil erosion, terrace farming, rainwater harvesting, hospital waste management, usage of solar, wind and other forms of non-conventional sources of energy.

The exhibition also served as a melting pot for students from 20 Government high schools and 30 private schools. "This has given us a platform to interact with many people of our age and put our views across," said Ch. Pavani from the Government Boys High School, Kavadiguda. She and her team made a model on water conservation through rainwater harvesting.

Painting exhibition

Apart from ECM, Programme for Environmental Awareness in Schools (PEAS), National Green Corps and Satyam Foundation also supported the event. A painting and slogan writing competition was also organised as part of the event.
