JODHPUR: Forest officials here on Sunday groped in the dark after failing to get any evidence of a complaint by residents of Keru village, near here, that chinkara, an endangered species of deer, was killed by some army men.

The officials, on receiving the complaint ten days ago, said they had surveyed the jungle but found no carcass or any other evidence of chinkara poaching.

Jodhpur district Hawa Singh Ghumaria said forest officials found the carcass of a rabbit and blood stains.

He said no complaint has been lodged with the police about chinkara poaching.

A Jodhpur court had in March this year awarded one-year imprisonment to Bollywood actor Salman Khan for poaching chinkara in 1998 during a film shoot there. The court, however, stayed execution of the punishment.
