New Delhi , Aug 21

Mr James Connaughton, Chairman, White House Council on Environmental Quality, met the industry representatives on Monday to discuss the private sector's role in the Asia-Pacific Partnership (APP) on Clean Development and Climate Change.

The meeting, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, was a precursor to a series of discussions and meetings that the White House Council on Environmental Quality will hold with the chamber in Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai on the APP.

The APP aims to promote energy efficient, clean technologies that provide amongst businesses in six partner countries — the US, Australia, India, Japan, China and South Korea.

It offers substantial potential for development, deployment and transfer of emerging technologies to achieve significant reductions in green house gas emissions.

The APP covers eight sectors — steel, aluminium, cement, coal and mining, building and appliances, power generation and transmission, renewable energy and cleaner use of fossil energy.
