WWF, NCC ecological seminar

Two-day ecological seminar jointly organised by the NCC Group Headquarters, Bhopal and World Wide Fund (WWF) for nature was inaugurated by Collector Bhopal, SK Mishra on Friday evening. The seminar being held at the Sagar School in Gandhi Nagar as part of the environmental education awareness campaign of the WWF witnessed the participation of nearly 650 NCC cadets who came in from schools and colleges from Bhopal and adjoining districts.

Colle ctor SK Mishra appreciated the efforts of WWF and NCC. Emphasising on the importance of the environment, the Collector said that the State Government had launched a massive afforestation drive under which 25 lakh saplings would be planted in Bhopal. WWF State Director Sangita Saxena while speaking to The Pioneer said that the objective of the seminar to sensitise NCC cadets on environmental issues. This is the first time that the WWF has enlisted the support of the NCC in creating environmental awareness. The second day of the seminar would have presentations on eco-tourism and sustainable livelihood issues and climate change. In order to make the session more interactive and less pedagogic, a quiz based on ecological awareness and a paper presentation competition for the NCC cadets will also be held, said Saxena.

The seminar would end with a sapling plantation ceremony under the ongoing Hariyali Mahotsav at the All Saints School where nearly 200 cadets would take part. The cadets would then be asked to adopt a sapling each to ensure its well being.
