Police close in on Sansar Chand's aides

The Madhya Pradesh Police has started tightening its noose on poachers associated with notorious animal-skin smuggler Sansar Chand.

Few days ago, the police received a of Sansar Chand's recorded statement from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in which he has revealed the names of 100 suspects actively engaged in poaching in State.

Inspector General of Police (CID) MP Dwivedi, while talking to The Pioneer, said the Superintendents of Police of different districts had been informed about the poachers and over 25 have already been arrested.

He informed that process for bringing Sansar Chand to Bhopal would be initiated after the hearings in various cases against him ends in Delhi. Over a dozen criminal cases are registered against him and his wife Asha Rani in different parts of the State.

He is wanted in Madhya Pradesh for over five years.

Criminal cases are registered against Sansar Chand at Satna, Panna, Katni, Kastni GRP, Anuppur, Itarsi, Jabalpur, Mandla, Balaghat, Seoni and Bhopal.

According to police sources, the other members of the gang, Siddha Singh, Roshan and Rikard Singh, all residents of Katni, are still at large. They added that the gang has been active in the jungles of Katni, Budhar, Bijuri, Dhasnpuri, Shahdol, Umaria, Jabalpur, and Itarsi.

Police sources said the gang is in contact with resorts near national parks and was being 'helped' by Forest Department staff to enter the forests.

The animal skin were mostly smuggled out of the State on trains. The modus operandi of the gang: have a female member wear the animal skin like a petticoat and smuggle it out. The gang is careful that the courier travels only in crowded general compartments.
