MYSORE: Following reports of illegal sand mining in the Cauvery and Kapila in T. Narasipura taluk near here, the Department of Mines and Geology has warned that action will be taken against the offenders.

In a press release issued here on Thursday, the district administration said that action had been initiated against illegal sand mining.

If illegal mining of sand continued, action would be initiated under K.M.M.C. rules, 1994.

The press release said that it had been found that trip-sheets from mining areas that had been sanctioned legally through tenders were being used for illegal mining and transportation of sand.

Specific regions

The release said tenders had been called for sand mining in specific regions and that the use of trip- sheets elsewhere was against rules. If the misuse of trip-sheets continued, the district administration would cancel the tenders, it added.
