Students, NSS volunteers take out rally

DINDIGUL: Efforts made by the people, particularly their innovative ways to solve various environmental problems and conserve natural resources would have more impact on environmental protection, said Collector R. Vasuki.

Speaking at a function to mark the World Environment Day at M.M. Kovilur village near here on Tuesday, she said despite Government's concerted efforts, involvement of people in protecting forest, air, water, land and biodiversity was indispensable. Air pollution would increase atmospheric temperature and ultimately affect very survival of people on the earth. People should not pollute land, air and water. Students should set an example for others in conservation of natural resources. Explaining the importance of cleanliness, Ms. Vasuki warned that tyres and wastes should not be burnt as they polluted air drastically.

Pollution Control Board Assistant Engineer, P.S. Livingston and District Educational Officer, T Amirtharaj Jeyakaran spoke.

Campaign rally

Later, hundreds of students, NSS volunteers and members of Green Club of C.S.M.A. Higher Secondary School took out a cycle rally at M.M. Kovilur and neighbouring villages to create awareness of environment protection. They campaigned at M.M. Kovilur, Periakottai, Kurumbapatti, Kappiliapatti, and Kodanganaickenpatti covering a distance of 10 km. The rally started from the school premises and reached the school again covering five villages.
